The awarded Heribert Bayer’s winery in Neckenmarkt produces exceptional Austrian wines, blending tradition with innovation. Led by Patrick Bayer, their wines capture terroir, varietal character, and the family’s unique winemaking philosophy.
After a meticulous three-year search, Heribert Bayer, a respected négociant and advisor to Burgenland’s emerging red wine makers, discovered the ideal vineyard sites on Neckenmarkt’s Hochberg. Here, he found the foundation for creating some of Austria’s finest red wines. In that same year, he introduced the house’s signature wine, In Signo Leonis ("In the Sign of the Lion"), which quickly became both Bayer's most renowned and best-selling red wine.
The success of In Signo Leonis, coupled with his son Patrick Bayer's decision to join the family business, fueled further growth. Building on this momentum, new wines inspired by the zodiac, such as In Signo Tauri and In Signo Sagittarii, followed. By 2002, they expanded production with a state-of-the-art winery in Neckenmarkt.
Patrick Bayer has continued his father’s legacy for over 15 years, now running the winery with his partner and a skilled team. As one of Austria’s few négociants, Patrick creates wines using grapes from specific sites and terroirs he believes are perfectly suited to each varietal. These wines express varietal character, origin, vintage, and a unique personal touch, underlined by a focus on longevity and balance. Guided by time, precision, and respect for the craft, the wines achieve a harmonious interplay of fruit, acidity, tannins, and oak spice. The foundation of Bayer’s winemaking lies in old vines, a dedication to quality, and the highest standards of cellar precision.
